Broadband providers are falling over themselves to offer free laptops!

The internet has come age and everybody now knows how to use a computer. The prices of computers are now more affordable compared with years ago when a new computer system would have set you back more than £2,000. Today you can purchase an entry level machine that comes with wireless internet connection ability that allows you to use your computer anywhere within reach of your wireless router. Who would have thought twenty years ago that you could sit in bed at home with your computer on your lap and talk to a friend on a cruise ship in the Caribbean or email your boss in New York on a Saturday morning?

Today’s computers are ten times more powerful than the computer systems that were used on the Apollo 11 mission when it landed on the moon. Wireless internet connection technology has advanced, the speed of the internet connection has increased, the cost of broadband providers has come down and mobile broadband has arrived. Mobile Broadband allows you to connect to the internet wherever you are, regardless of whether you are in a Wi-Fi hotspot or near a phone line. This is a technology that is improving everyday. Imagine being on holiday on a canal boat in the UK and you are able to connect to the internet via your mobile broadband provider simply by plugging in your USB dongle or inserting a data card.  The future does look bright.

Recently I was introduced to Broadband Genie who provides an independent free-to-use online broadband comparison service website for UK consumers. They publish lots of information to help consumers to compare Internet Service Providers (ISPs), and they allow users to freely compare providers on whatever basis they choose. They are completely independent of any broadband providers, and are members of independent industry bodies including the Internet Service Providers Association and the Broadband Stakeholders Group. You should first shop around and see how much a mobile broadband contract and a similar spec computer would cost before purchasing as a bundle, says the money saving expert.  It’s worth noting that none of the laptops are really free.  The monthly cost of just a mobile broadband dongle would be cheaper.  These bundles are a great way to get online (if you don’t already have a laptop) without parting with a load of cash up front.
